This page should serve as a springboard to the wealth of resources available nationwide. http://www.lib.odu.edu/blackhistory ==> KALEIDOSCOPE: THE MUSICAL WORLD OF ADOLPHUS HAILSTORK The third in a series of exhibitions and concerts planned to highlight the F. Ludwig Diehn Composers Room and its collections will be held on Sunday, February 13. Adolphus Hailstork is an internationally known composer, music laureate for the state of Virginia, and Professor of Music at Norfolk State University. Dr. Hailstork has written numerous works for chorus, solo voice, various chamber ensembles, band, and orchestra. His renown is due in large part to the breadth of his accomplishments and the solidity of his compositional style. The Adolphus Hailstork Showcase Concert and Exhibit opens at 2 p.m. on Sunday February 13 in the Diehn Composers Room. The concert is at 3 p.m. in Chandler Recital Hall with musicians F. Gerard Errante, Jeanette Winsor, Lee Jordan-Anders, Lorraine Bell and Frank Ward Jr. Made possible by a generous grant from the Norfolk Foundation, the concert and exhibition are free and open to the public. To view the online exhibit, go to http://www.lib.odu.edu/hailstork ==> DATABASE HIGHLIGHT: AFRICAN-AMERICAN POETRY DATABASE The African-American Poetry Database is one of the full-text poetry databases produced by Chadwyck-Healey, maintained by the University of Virginia's Electronic Text Center, and provided through the Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA). It includes the full text of approximately 2,500 African-American poems from 1760-1900, including love poems of Robert C.O. Benjamin, dialect poems by James Edwin Campbell, religious poems by Daniel Webster Davis, patriotic poems by George Clinton Rowe, and elegiac verse by Phillis Wheatley.
